The hottest trend in denim that I have seen in a very long time is selvedge denim. This type of denim is higher quality and is more difficult to produce. The most exclusive denim manufacturers and the most expensive jeans are starting to produce jeans made out of selvedge denim. Those who desire to always be on the cutting edge of fashion and style trends should look to selvedge denim jeans.

Selvedge denim is more expensive to produce because the fabric is manufactured on the old style shuttle looms. These shuttle looms were used before the 1950s. After the 1950s, because of the increased demand for denim, fabric manufacturers changed to newer projectile looms. These newer looms produced denim much faster than the traditional shuttle looms, but the denim quality was far less than the older looms. Further, selvedge denim is heavier and stronger because it is woven tighter.

Jeans that use selvedge denim are more expensive than jeans that use lower quality denim and they also last longer. Look for selvedge denim jeans to become very popular in the coming months as demand for these high quality jeans increases.
